The Purpose and Conventions of a Digipak
The purpose of a digipak is essentially to list the content of the album and to protect the disc itself. A digipak makes the CD eye catching through the use of a memorable piece of artwork to express meaning. They are designed to fold into a square shape with a plastic casing on the inside in which to hold the disc. The front of the album digipak usually has an eye catching picture related to the artist's songs. The song or album title will be on the front for the audience to easily understand the content of the CD. The back of the digipak contains a track list, more of the album's artwork along with a barcode and the record label. Digipacks often include an album leaflet or booklet which will include writing credits for each song, and may even include lyrics. They often include artistic images within the booklet to further complement the artist and album theme.
